Eliminate the Source of Food, Seal Entry Ways, Get Rid of Ants in the Yard, Place Bait Indoors, Stop Ants from Ruining Your Home

Anyone who has tried to get rid of ants knows how impossible it seems. While there is no single solution to completely ridding your home of the social pests, these are some of the methods that have been proven effective at eliminating the annoying pest:

1. Eliminate the Source of Food

Ants are quick to enter a home in search of food, so one of the best ways to get rid of them is to eliminate their source of food.

Keep food products tightly sealed and make sure to clean any dirty dishes, countertops or surfaces that may have residue left behind after a meal. You’ll quickly notice that the ants will leave the home when the food is no longer available.

To help repel ants further, use vinegar in a spray bottle to spray countertops and other kitchen surfaces once any food residue has been cleaned off to keep ants away.

2. Seal Entry Ways

Ants are small critters, so think small when looking for areas to seal up.

The edges of windows should be caulked, doors should have weather stripping, and any holes in the exterior of the home such as those for telephone cords or cable wires should also be caulked or sealed to prevent access.

Using caulk along the baseboards and foundation of the home is another excellent way to seal potential entry points to keep ants out of the home.

3. Get Rid of Ants in the Yard

One of the best ways to get rid of ants or to prevent them from coming into the home is to eliminate colonies in the yard.

Use a pesticide spray to repel ants from the outside. Then, ask a local pest exterminator about products that will effectively kill ants in the yard.

Various products are available to help, including ant baits, repellents and insecticides which all help keep ants out of the yard and away from the home.

4. Place Bait Indoors

Ant bait works by ants feeding on them and bringing it back to the queen. This is one effective way of killing an entire colony of ants.

Baits are best placed in common areas where the ants travel, such as between the food pantry and windows or along hallways toward the front door.

Stop Ants from Ruining Your Home

Together, these ant control methods should help you not only eliminate ants, but prevent them from coming back and taking over your home.

In the event that the infestation has spread, contact a local pest exterminator for help in getting rid of ants from the home. They can also help you come up with a treatment plant to get rid of pests for good.
